Felt Products 1996
Felt Products Felt is the oldest found textile material. I’ve always been attracted to and curious about the different ways of working with felt, from the handcrafted to the manufactured. Felt has to do with survival, the military, of keeping warm. I first started working with the material for my entry to the final exam exhibition at Beckman’s College of Design, with garments in knitted and felted wool. I then began experimenting with broadcloth, of woven and felted wool, the material used in Swedish folk costumes. The third step came with the Capellini collaboration in 1991, when I developed my first felt collection manufactured mechanically in wool fibers composite. With all its traditional values, felt can also be extremely sharp and modern, especially combined with other materials. Its diversity will never cease to fascinate me.
